The MSHA Mentorship Program is designed to connect graduate students with experienced speech-language pathologists and audiologists across Mississippi. This program provides an opportunity for students to gain insight, guidance, and support as they prepare to enter the profession.
Mentors and mentees will have the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics, including (but not limited to):
- Resume building and interview preparation
- Salary negotiation and navigating your first job
- Maintaining licensure and earning CEUs
- Developing leadership skills
- Ethics and professional expectations
- Productivity expectations and documentation across settings
- CFY process and transitioning from student to professional
Who can be a mentor?
Any licensed SLP or AUD practicing in Mississippi who is a current MSHA member is eligible to serve as a mentor.
What is the time commitment?
Based on feedback from previous mentors and students, the 2026 MSHA Mentorship Program has been expanded to allow mentors and mentees to stay connected throughout the year!
Mentors will be paired with 1–2 graduate students and will be asked to meet a minimum of three times throughout the program year (September 2026–April 2027). Meetings may be held virtually or in person and can be scheduled at times that work best for both the mentor and student.
While there are suggested discussion topics and meeting ideas, the goal of the program is to create a flexible and meaningful connection. Mentors and mentees will have access to each other throughout the year, allowing additional opportunities to ask questions, seek guidance, and connect as schedules allow.
